Review of The Prophecy (1995) by David B — 11 Nov 2013
War in Heaven and angels on earth is the order of the day in The Prophecy. Simon (Eric Stoltz) is an angel that has come to Earth in search of a soul that is said to be the catalyst of untold destruction.
Simon locates the soul but is being hunted first by Uziel (Jeff Cadiente) and then by Gabriel (Christopher Walken) who wishes to use the soul in the celestial war. In between this war between the angels is former priest now cop, Thomas (Elias Koteas), and a teacher, Katherine (Virginia Madsen), who are the only ones standing in Gabriel's way when Simon passes the much-sought soul onto a young girl, Mary (Moriah Shining Dove Snyder).
I didn't have high hopes for The Prophecy but it isn't actually bad, largely due to the central performance from Christopher Walken as Gabriel. The rest of the cast do okay in supporting the master and although the ending isn't as good as it could have been, this remains a decent enough horror flick.
