Brooks' first directorial effort is hit-and-miss, but the hits rank among the funniest scenes in movie history. Dark, amoral and very un-PC comedy about crooked Broadway producers has an overacting Mostel but a brilliant Wilder in the leads -- and show-stopping musical numbers.
