Review of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) by Seth L — 11 Dec 2009
Usually trailers for movies make me want to see pretty much everything. this was an exception. in fact, the coming attraction nauseated me. I don't know if the marketing director decided to present this as "a chick flick for the holidays" because it is anything but.
robin wright penn gives the best performance of her career, subtle, real, emotional, and engaging. much like a european flick, the topics here are about love, life, death, family - you know existential meanderings.
I absolutely fell in love with the younger pippa played by blake lively, not necessarily the actress, but the character. but that's how good her performance was. this is a little movie with a big heart.
maria bello does a great job as the dexedrine hooked mother. I can see some nominations coming out of this movie...
