Review of The Prince of Tides (1991) by Kevin C — 02 Sep 2007
"The Prince of Tides" is an excellent book by Pat Conroy and an excellent film by Streisand who directed, produced, and acted in this film. Although I personally don't fully agree with her casting herself as Lowenstein, she pulled through with a great performance, mainly towards the end of the film.
From the infamous dinner scene to the end. Her perfectionism helped this film in many ways. From her studying of moon charts and tide formations, to her beautifully crafted style. She deserved each one of her 8 Academy Award Nominations, and I believe Nolte should've gotten the Oscar for Best Actor.
As well as Kate Nelligan for Best Supporting Actress. Not to mention, best director and film. I highly recommend this film to anyone who likes cinematography and beautiful sunsets. It's clearly one of my favorite Barbra Streisand films.
