Review of The Pride of the Yankees (1942) by Corey B — 28 Nov 2010
The Pride of the Yankees is a nice biotopic film, with fine acting by Gary Cooper, Teresa Wright, and Walter Brennan. The chemistry between Cooper and Wright is extremely strong and Brennan is very funny (and surprisingly different role compared to Red River, which I recently just watched).
My only problem with this film is the fact we do not know what eventually kills Lou Gehrig at the end of the film. They never give a term for the diagnosis, leaving viewers astray there. If the word was inpronouncable, simplify to maybe cancer or brain tumor.
Those are easy to understand. Overall, a decent, good hearted film, and I think it should be on the 1001 Movies List.
