As someone who grew up in the Midwest and has always hated the Yankees this is a great story and a great movie. Cooper is great as the humble and unassuming Gehrig one of the great players in MLB history.

Gehrig's story transcends sports because it is also a tragic one as the disease that bears his name cuts his career and his life right in its prime. One of the joys in this movie is seeing Babe Ruth play himself, giving a glimpse at his larger than life personality.

Much like Sergeant York, which while a war movie it gave us a closer look at the man so does Pride of the Yankees give us a look at what made the man that was Lou Gehrig; a mother's boy, a college man (which was unusual back in those days), and a devoted husband.

Teresa Wright is great as Mrs. Gehrig, the daughter of a wealthy businessman who obviously is more worldly than Gehrig and is initially amused by his shy demeanor but falls in love with his boyish charm.
