Lana Turner and John Garfield both deserved Oscar-nominations for their performances in this film noir based on Luchino Visconti's masterpiece Ossesione. Turner, like another of the great Hollywood beauties.
Ava Gardner, was an underrated actress at the time, but this proved that she could act. And she looks stunning throughout.
