Review of The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) by Mec R — 17 Mar 2008
What was fresh about this book seemed to be everything that was left out of this adaptation. Lana Turner was perfectly coiffed and polished, walking in the room for the first time looking like a pin-up poster.
James Garfield was clean-shaven & baby-faced, stepping off the truck that he'd been hitchhiking on. That first kiss (and I was watching for it)--no biting. Haha. I understand that none of those elements would have gotten past the censors in those days.
So be it. It was nice, for what it was. Pretty, polished, Hollywoodized version of the book.
