Review of The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) by Blake P — 17 Aug 2011
Great film noir. Drifter Frank (Garfield) lands at Twin Oaks, a rural restaurant owned by a silly old man (Kellaway), and his much younger wife Cora (Turner). It takes no time at all for Frank and Cora to fall in love-- in fact theyre so determined to make it work they decide it would be a good idea to kill the husband.
When the tragic death does happen, its not at all the way they planned. Now, theyre both in court for murder, and that literally tears them apart. The Postman Always Rings Twice is a memorable film-- known as the beautiful Lana Tuners best role.
Relatively unknown director Tay Garnett was a perfect match for this thriller, as well as Turner and Garfield. The only mis- casted one remains to be Kellaway who does nothing to ruin this film, and the soon- to- be- star Audrey Totter made a small appearance as well.
The beautiful romance between John and Lana couldnt have been better-- there chemistry shocked audiences and the studio bosses suspected them to have nothing at all. As sexy as this movie sounds from this websites summary, its really not.
The perfect amount of romance is used, and the dimming of their flame gradually sets in, weirdly, in a quiet way. But anyways, The Postman Always Rings Twice is phenomenal, and any movie lover will enjoy it.
