Director Derek Cianfrance delivers another (Blue Valentine) difficult but thoughtful drama that either makes you happy with your life or makes you feel useless. Whichever the answer is The Place Beyond The Pines makes you think and fell and that's why it succeeds. The screenplay virtuous and tells an admirable story, the dialogue is crafted in a subtle, patient way and it definitely packs a punch. The whole cast is praise worthy especially Gosling and Cooper.
Despite it's rough story I found The Place Beyond The Pines to be absorbing from start to finish. Even though there a no action scene I found it more thrilling and tense than most action movies. It's heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.
The big-small problem with the movie was its run time. It is by no means boring but it's quite lengthy and sometimes drags.
