Review of The Pirate (1948) by Lindsay H — 24 Jun 2007
There's more to this movie than meets the eye. It's Vincente Minnelli's oft-overlooked masterpiece, a stunning film that toys with the boundaries of genre and artifice even as it combines the magnificent talents of Judy Garland and Gene Kelly.
The songs are catchy, the dialog is snappy, the plot is creative. Its commentary on desire and fiction especially appeals to me as a fan of movies and a reader of romance novels...
