If you shorten the length of some of Clouseau's scenes and cut the final moment in the police car, you can see what movie this film would have been had Edwards not wisely veered off to give Sellers more time to shine.
As it is, this is a fantastically witty movie with several fantastic situational comedy moments, and a lingering air of peculiar duality.
