Review of The Pink Panther (1963) by Adam H — 11 Nov 2009
This movie so adequately demonstrates what made Peter Sellers a rare genius among comedians. When Steve Martin or Chevy Chase trips over and expensive vase they play it up and draw it out as if screaming to the camera "look what I just did".
Sellers does just the opposite. He knows that tripping over the vase is not the punchline to the joke, but instead only the setup. The comedy comes from the character's attempt to play it cool or cover up what he just did.
The Pink Panther stands as a classic of timeless Sellers comedy and will deliver side-splitting laughs again and again.
