Review of The Pink Panther (1963) by Jack W — 26 Aug 2011
A classic, the film pales in comparison to it's sequel, A Shot in the Dark. I fully think this is due to the fact that the narrative really revolves around Charles Litton and it only lights up when Sellers is onscreen.
Now this is not to say this film isn't great, but it falls lacking at certain times. The cast is great, with two amazingly beautiful women in Claudia Cardinale and Capucine. The score is ubiquitous at this point and especially during the title sequence do you realize how familiar everyone is with both.
The film belongs to Sellers though as you cannot take your eyes off him throughout the film when he appears. What an amazing and talented actor the guy was, albeit completely crazy! :). Great film, but make sure to watch sequel!
