Review of The Piano Teacher (2001) by Aubrey N — 21 Jun 2009
Isabelle Huppert's character suffers from a rare mental disorder that compels her to act as though a sadistic Austrian film director is telling her what to do. Cold, arrogant, and self-mutilating, she passes her days insulting her piano students and casting dead-eyed glances every which way.
She also huffs strange men's cum rags and sleeps with her mother. She is, in other words, little more than the unwitting agent of Haneke's scandalous art house moments. Enter an infatuated student who's almost as twisted as she is, and things really get cooking.
And then she pees by some kids having sex. You get the gist. A waste of some stylish photography and first-rate acting.
