Review of The Piano (1993) by Tressa F — 03 Mar 2010
One of my all-time favorite movies. A very odd and compelling romance about a mute woman who communicates through her piano and the two men in her life: one who "gets" her and the other who doesn't no matter how hard he tries.
Anna Paquin won an award for her portrayal of Ada's precocious daughter who makes a fateful decision that brings violence to her mother. The young girl is heartbreaking in her role as someone who wants so badly to be a family.
Holly Hunter--always good--is remarkable as is Harvey Keitel and Sam Neill.
