Review of The Piano (1993) by Mary T — 13 Aug 2010
The Piano is tale of forbidden romance and music that has flashes of brilliance. However, its one that never reaches its greatest potential. I found quite peculiar problems with the story. For one, what guy is gonna say to his wife, oh yeah go ahead and spend all your time with a guy who's been basically on his own forever? And then what guy, who doesn't even feel for the woman he's married to, goes and decides to be a complete asshole and cut off her finger if he just plans on letting her go off with the guy she really loves? Come on, these are valid points I'm making.
But it had enough good acting (eventual star Anna Paquin steals the show) and moments of substantial drama to pass as a watchable film. I just don't think I'd pay this one a visit a second time.
