Review of The Pianist (2002) by Joshua H — 14 Jun 2011
The Pianist is scary, dangerously scary. It has all the violence and injustice you'd expect from a Holocaust movie, but for some reason this film in particular makes it more real, more like something that happened instead of something someone dreamt up in a bad nightmare.
There's this sense of heightened realism, the knowledge that the director really does know what he's doing, and that's the beauty of it. I can hardly say the Pianist is an enjoyable film, but its greatness is undeniable.
