Review of The Pianist (2002) by Ken C — 13 Feb 2011
Sour, ugly, accurate, and beautifully made, this is another fine film under the direction of Roman Polanski and Best Director Oscar he certainly deserved. The film follows the life Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody, a highly Best Actor) who struggles to survive in war torn Warsaw.
Like other films before, particularly Schindler's List, the creators do not have any reservations on exposing the horrors of Jewish casualties during World War II, or for that matter, anybody else in the way.
The film is bleak, frightening and masterfully done and requires absolute attention while viewing. It is an intense and quite gut-wrenching at times. Truly magnificent film!
