Review of The Philadelphia Story (1940) by Joe N — 22 Jul 2008
The Philadelphia Story's great cast beckons all appreciators of classic film to watch it. It's refreshing to see Cary Grant and James Stewart so young. Cary has never looked so suave as when you've seen him without the wrinkles that plague his face in later movies. I never realized James Stewart is a giant(6'3'' looking)--also lanky. His drunk scenes were hilarious and must have landed him that Best Actor Oscar. This was my first Katharine Hepburn movie and she was everything I expected as the AFI's #1 actress. The little sister, Dinah, is hilarious!
This movie suffers from being a little overly talky and that's about it.
Great stuff. Surprise ending really.
