Review of The Phantom of the Opera (2004) by Danielle D — 18 May 2014
While I really love this story and I enjoy the stage production, this movie simply had poor casting and poor directing. Christine and the Phantom needed voices significantly more powerful, and with a much wider range.
The singing (which is obviously a major component) fell short. There was also a rather disappointing lack of emotion. The characters had no depth whatsoever. The actors and actresses were not fit for their rolls, and the director was clearly clueless as to how they should have directed the scenes.
