Review of The Phantom of the Opera (2004) by Thomas K — 11 Jan 2015
Not to mention they screwed so many things up. 1. Joel Schumacher (I hate him) 2. They cut a lot of stuff out. 3. They changed some stuff (in the stage production, Erik, the Phantom, shoots fireballs while taunting Raoul instead of sword fighting him.
This is just one example.) 4. Why have someone who's never sang professionally before in his life be one of the biggest singing male roles. 5. Also, Erik, the Phantom, is supposed to be ugly. his make up in the movie just looks like a small burn.
also, I don't mind someone "sexy" or "hot" playing Erik but he's not suppposed to be hot because then there's more drama between Christine's choice because Raoul is the hot rich guy and Erik is ugly but he DID, single handedly train Christine's voice thus launching her career and making her as good a singer as she was.
These are just a few flaws. Although I must say, this movie was the very first version of Phantom of the Opera that I ever saw, so I can't hate on it too much.
