Review of The Phantom of the Opera (1962) by Katie L — 28 Mar 2008
I can't imagine that this is any worse that any other PofO renditions, save of course for the classic, I sure, Brian DePalma's Phantom of the Paradise, and possibly Argento's version. Although it wasn't great, it wasn't bad, and the Phantom did look pretty creepy.
Of course you have the regular gentlemanly attitudes of the characters that are in every Hammer Horror, which I find to be so curious that it holds my attention, even if the story is weak. It doesn't hold a candle to any other Hammer's I've seen, yet maybe a dim night light, as it's the same basic idea.
Either way the Phantom is pretty cool, yet the end is somewhat anti climactic, although it leaves you with a killer ending shot.
