Review of The People vs. George Lucas (2010) by Nancy O — 24 Jun 2012
The People Vs. George Lucas is a documentary that examines the complex relationship between George Lucas and the Star Wars fandom. Although I found it to be a good time, there are a few factors that really weigh it down. To begin with the movie can feel a bit one sided. This is supposed to be a movie about Star Wars fans vs. George Lucas, but we don't really get to see Lucas's side of the argument. In addition, although a lot of the interviewed subjects make valid points, there are moments when the film does little more than validate the opinions whiny, immature fanboys. The film's final flaw is that it doesn't really offer any new information. There's little to be found here than can't already be found in an internet flame war.
Despite my issues with the film, I found it pretty fun to watch. I laughed at the jokes, and enjoyed the inclusion of Star Wars fan films. I'm happy I watched it.
