Review of The Peanuts Movie (2015) by Raji K — 07 Apr 2016
The classic cartoon strip the Peanuts moves to the big screen in the Peanuts Movie. The strip successfully transferred to the screen once in the classic Christmas special, but a 3D full motion picture is another story.
The transition animation wise from 2D to 3D can be tough, but this is done perfectly. The style of the animation and the design of all the characters captures the spirit of the strip, but gives the characters a fresh 3D look.
The movie itself was not as great as it feels disjointed. When a new girl movies across the street from Charlie Brown, he feels the need to impress her, but of course is quite to point out all his shortcomings and lack of confidence.
The movie feels like a bunch of comic strips divided up and does not seem to have a ton of continuity. To get some action and to increase the length of the film, the film features Snoopy writing and imaging a story of him chasing a Red Baron.
It just seems somewhat forced and is mostly not needed exception to capture the imagination of Snoopy. The Peanuts Movie does a good job capturing each character and has beautiful animation, but it better suited for comic shorts rather than a full feature.
