Review of The Passion of the Christ (2004) by Sam M — 16 Nov 2013
Not good. Whether or not you believe in the whole Christianity thing, Jesus of Nazareth was a great guy that changed the world with his teachings (both for better and for worse). This movie focuses on torture and exploitation while largely ignoring who Jesus was and what he meant to his time period, which is what the central point of the movie should have been.
Anyway, the torture and crucifixion process is emotionally powerful and captivating... for about fifteen minutes. Then you realize that the majority of the film is just a montage of self-indulgent slow-mo whipping.
Caviezel is a great Jesus, but this film offers little else.
