Review of The Panic in Needle Park (1971) by Courtney W — 08 Nov 2010
Pre Godfather Pacino. It's got a good cast and a decent story about a country girl who moved to new York to be an artist and gets sucked in to the heroin scene. Pacino is Bobby a well meaning junkie who takes Helen (Kitty Winn) under his wing after meeting her at a back alley abortion clinic. They bum around and try to get by as any junkie does. Pacino is totally committed to the character as he always is. Winn does really well with a character that begins as a fairly traditional ingenue and ends as a... well you'll see.
It's shot like a documentary and the story is really gritty in that way.
Hope you'll give this one a try. I don't think you'll be sorry if you do.
