Review of The Outsiders (1983) by Steven S — 26 Mar 2010
(Note: I saw the 2-hour "Complete Novel" edition) The chemistry between all the actors feels legitimately real, and that's all important in an ensemble piece. I liked The Outsiders for what it was: a look into the struggles of teenagers.
There were some corny 80's moments, like how every guy was movie-star attractive (not someone you'd find in a gang), but it was a very well-made film. I never would have guessed it's from the same director as The Godfather and The Conversation because I can't link many themes between the movies.
The novel is a juvenile classic and the movie is a good compliment to it.
