Review of The Other Side (2006) by Jeff B — 01 Jun 2007
I saw this film at the Waterfront Film Festival in Saugatuck, Michigan and was blown away by it.
Directed by Gregg Bishop, the film opens with recent college graduate Samuel North (Nathan Mobley) getting killed and sent to Hell. He manages to escape from Hell, along with a few others, and is determined to find his fiancée, who disappeared the night he was killed. But people who escape from Hell are hunted down by Reapers, hit men from Hades that must take them back where they belong. Sam and two other fugitives spend the whole time trying to stay "alive" and defeat the reapers.
The opening of the film sets the story and the rest of it is action and more action. I loved this movie, it was so clever and original, I didn't care if there were a few plot holes, I had a fun time the whole way through. And being an independent film, I was really impressed with the stunts and special effects. The scenes in Hell were also well done, they looked pretty creepy and set the mood for the rest of the film.
The director Gregg Bishop and producer Chad Eikhoff were at the screening and had some nice stories to tell about the making of the film. I'm looking forward to seeing more of their work.
Track down this movie, watch it, the tell your friends about it. It really is worth it.
