Review of The Omega Man (1971) by James C — 06 Apr 2008
This is the quintessential Heston movie, with Chuck playing the last "healthy" human being in the world, the last consumer and last Western man. He spends his days bitterly roving the deserted streets of LA, watching re-runs of Woodstock and grabbing what he can from the deserted shops; he spends his nights killing the plague-ridden zombies who burn books and goods & rant against the "technological people of the wheel".
At one point, Chuck - dressed in ruffled shirt, has dinner with himself and muses that "I used to be a nice person". A fitting epitaph to the actor, as he slipped towards reactionary old age.
