Review of The Old Maid (1939) by Randy E — 13 Dec 2004
It seems as if it's been forever since I've seen a great movie. This movie made the year after Davis's second Oscar is costume melodrama at its soapy best. Davis is fantastic as the mother who gives up everything for her daughter.
Many classic movies attempt this same formula but none nearly as believable. The beginning is a little slow so I give it an 8.
