Review of The Old Maid (1939) by Rance C — 29 Dec 2007
Underrated, often overlooked Bette Davies movie. Sadly its a chick flick, but its so worth it for the wonderful dialogue and relatively restrained acting on Davie's part. Quick synopsis: Bette Davies' charactor has an illegitamte child which she is persuaded to give up to her cousin (the marvellous Miriam Hopkins) and has to stand by as her child grow up treating her like acranky, old maiden Aunt.
You will be in floods of tears by the end, partcularly during the final scene Bette Davies has with her daughter. Essential viewing for any fans of Davies and anyone who fancies some good old fashioned entertainment.
