Review of The Offence (1973) by Aidan H — 02 Oct 2009
At worst, the technique of splicing in a few frames here and there of Johnson's memories/"pictures" in the scenes is dated and doesn't entirely work (nowhere near as well as Lumet previously did in the Pawnbroker).
But it's also got one of Connery's truly phenomenal performances, and some brilliant scenes where two men in a room argue about something that is subjective - what happened in that room/what happened with those girls? It's riveting stuff, and I'd even go as far as to say the final interrogation scene beats the crap out of the Batman/Joker interrogation scene in the Dark Knight.
Yup, it's that good... shame the rest of the movie isn't.
