Review of The Odd Couple (1968) by John E — 22 Apr 2008
This is the mother of all comedic "buddy" films. The writing is crisp, quick and clever - never straying into cliche like so many newer imitations have been. This film explores the volitile relationship of two best friends with opposite personalities in a refreshingly funny and endearing way.
In the same vane as Butch and Sundance, Crocket and Tubbs, Riggs and Murtah, the Odd Couple's Felix and Oscar prove that there is no substitute for smart writing, empathetic characters and great chemistry between them.
Lets pray that they never remake - and ruin this classic.
