Review of The Nines (2007) by Mark Z — 11 Feb 2009
John August's debut film maintains some of the liveliness of his writing but fails to impress. Ryan Reynolds is really outstanding as three different individuals undeniably connected by the high-concept approach the film embraces.
August takes some unusual risks with his narrative but the pacing doesn't support the premise, with the first and third episodes dragging more than they ought to. Still, it is worth seeing if only for the rather impressive acting at play and I could definitely see the story appealing to some.
