Review of The Night Listener (2006) by Angie K — 18 Jul 2007
The big problem with this movie is that it's very hard to bring yourself to really care about what's going on. Robins tries his best but the plot is negligable and the direction is far too heavy handed.
There's no real twist (not one that you don't see coming) and there really is no sympathy for Collette's character. Robins' character feels sorry for her but we don't. How can we when what drives her to be as she is is not competently explored.
We get a throwaway explanation from Oh, but no real insight into her state of mind or the power behind the psychosis. As the movie ends you feel like it could have been so much more of an intriguing look into psychosomatic disorders.
But it isn't. Therefore, it's not much of a psychological thriller.
