Not only did I find this movie fascinating, but it scared the crap out of me because it sounded so familiar.

In the 1980s, while volunteering on a gay public radio program, I had a similar experience that Armistead Maupin had. However, in my case it was a young gay man (blind or pretending to be blind) who made claims about childhood abuse at the hands of his parents. I did an interview with him that we aired because it was so compelling, only to learn later that the man was feeding us lies (by his own admission). Had I read The Night Listener novel when it came out in 1978, I would have been on my toes, but instead got duped.

Excellent film and Robin Williams was simply marvelous.
