Review of The Nice Guys (2016) by Guillermo V — 06 Oct 2018
It took me forever to finally get around to seeing this but I'm very happy I finally did. It's saving grace, as is usually the case with Shane Black, is the likeability of his characters and the witty banter and on-screen chemistry they share.
Angourie rice also adds a nice touch to the movie she should totally be on the poster she ends up playing a lead role essentially and even though it can veer off into the ridiculous and can feel slight, if not entirely inconsequential at times, the rising action and unexpected turns of events really ended up winning me over so by the time the fantastic climactic battle came on, I was all in and it certainly did not disappoint with an action-packed finale that was even better than black's similarly explosive ending for the iron man trilogy.
I also loved the setting and ambiance with the seedy 70s porn backdrop dripping with allure, even the hired gun that comes after our leads is suave as hell and I love the inclusion of Keith David in anything.
I recommend it if you're looking for an above average popcorn thriller that is very stylish and is all about the funny.
