Review of The New World (2005) by Adam K — 01 Apr 2009
To enjoy this movie, you must go into with the same open mind I would imagine Pocahontas would have had given the things she had to go through. This is very much a movie about her and not John Smith and it's brilliant, her character is brilliant.
The movie is about beauty; beauty of life, landscape, love, and culture. We are shown the many things that Pocahontas must endure and through it all she is always smiling and at the end of the day happy.
What she went through I wish upon nobody, but she did get to experience a lot and in that regard maybe her life was just that full of life, landscape, love, and culture to teach us that those things exist in our lives and we should find them, embrace them, and cherish them.
The visuals were ever so stunning and at the end of my day, I love Terrence Malik.
