Review of The New World (2005) by Eric M — 26 Jul 2014
Mysterious and cryptic in unfolding a poetic love story, "The New World" might drag on a bit in its second half, and its slow pace and ambiguous structure will be a turn off to many, but overall it remains a beautifully shot and haunting film.
The story transcends its historical setting to become a simple human drama, one shown through the countless normal and mundane acts that add up to something truly profound. With stunning cinematography, great acting and phenomenal use of music, "The New World" is a film which might have benefited from some stricter editing, but regardless will leave a great impact on attentive and patient viewers as to the significance of the idea of a "new world" as opposed to its actual geography.
