Review of The New World (2005) by Paul W — 24 Oct 2011
Epic telling of Americas Colonisation, battles with, and later, suppression of, the Native American population. Stunning, Naturalistic cinematography helps elevate the film to transgressive work of art.
As we watch Pocohontas "westernisation" into Rebecca, we find ourselves yearning for an alternative history where modern humanity was not so predictably disastrous. Malik ruminates on his love of nature; soaring birds, fecund forests, snakes and insects, all so much more worthwhile than the men digging for gold while they starve.
