Review of The Natural (1984) by George L — 15 Jan 2008
It's the music that pulls me into this wonderfully filmed American myth. Randy Newmans gentle plagerism of Aaron Copeland's "Billy The Kid" and "Appalachain Spring" truly hold this movie together.
I would have preferred some actual swing band soundtracks from that era (Goodman or Shaw), but what spills out of the speakers is basically pure audio Norman Rockwell. The story is classic, the acting is first rate and the cinematography is spell binding.
And don't all the guys look good in snap-brimmed fedoras? See this movie.
