The Natural deals with some tough subjects like death, but at the heart of this great film are Roy Hobbs' love of two things Baseball, and his childhood sweetheart Iris Gaines. Roy only plays one season with The New York Knights but wins them the 1939 pennant ever after being sidelined due to a gunshot wound (to the stomach) that could kill him at any moment if he continues to play baseball.
