Review of The Natural (1984) by Ryan K — 11 Mar 2008
This movie is so so sappy, but I think it's great. I love the childhood sweetheart subplot, the ridiculously cool 1930s baseball imagery, the idea of an old athlete tearing up the majors like a young Turk.
This may be Randy Newman's very best theme, yet he wouldn't win the Oscar; a shame. Again, the movie's pure sap, but that sap produced some great fictional iconic images, especially for some of the homers.
I'm not really a baseball fan, but I am a fan of this movie.
