Review of The Namesake (2006) by Epifania A — 24 Jul 2010
I am lowering my rating to three stars (from three and half) since I saw this again last night; The screenplay is very sub-par, and the direction wasn't that impressive either. Kal Penn was a total miscast, too.
Another gripe of mine, unlike the novel, the movie adaptation seemed more like Ashima's journey rather than Gogol's. But, ironically, what really holds this film together are the performances by the parents, played by Tabu and Irfan Khan.
Ofcourse the main essence of the original story is there, it's the screenplay that puts Jhumpa Lahiri's story down. It's still not a bad watch, overall.
