Review of The Naked City (1948) by Memo P — 29 Jun 2011
I have a soft spot in my heart for great detective films. They used to inspire me to conduct my own investigations when problems arose. They are just great fun and usually don't serve any other purpose than to entertain.
The Naked City is a great example of that entertaining thrill you get watching hard-boiled detectives uncover a mystery. It's a short glimpse into this naked city, and it's exactly why I love detective films.
It doesn't necessarily offer any answers to deep philosophical questions, and other than great psychological personifications in the characters it's not even a massively deep story. However it creates a universe that you're immersed in for this 96 minute adventure with great acting and a gritty feel.
It's one of those films that's just a blast to watch for adrenaline and intellectual reasons.
