Review of The Naked City (1948) by Ian R — 09 Feb 2008
All in favor of killing the narrator, please raise your hand now. Wow, did he annoy me. There's a voice over, and then there's a VOICE OVER. If the plot had been allowed to happen, I would have liked this movie a lot better, especially considering how well it was acting, and how the sets served as a good backdrop to the events unfolding.
At the same time, there were moments--such as the scene in which two characters debated over who should whip their child--that not only age badly but don't really belong in the film in the first place.
I'd say this movie was neither amazingly good, nor amazingly bad.
