Review of The Naked City (1948) by Ryan J — 09 Aug 2008
In many ways its a common film, with the stiff narration lent to us by a character existing after the end of the film (essentially omniscient) and the basic procedural nature of the story. Dassin's acute sense of camera and his affinity for noir elevate what is a traditional, simple -- though also highly intelligent -- script to the status it's earned; an integral noir classic.
One of my most recent influences.
