Review of The Naked City (1948) by Mikey M — 15 Dec 2010
"She needed a good spanking".
Early-ish Dassin film that has influenced me (and many before me) massively. Some of the acting is a bit ham, but I love the early location work and the humour in the screenplay is sparkling. It isn't a patch on Dassin's masterwork 'Rififi' and it does lack depth of character, but I continue to love this portrait of New York and the roundedness of the detective narrative - the dramatic intercutting of concurrent detective work toward the end and final chase sequence are its inspired high points.
