Review of The Naked City (1948) by Ross B — 18 Sep 2012
Jules Dassin directs this masterful look at a criminal investigation in New York City. The film itself centers around the NYPD's investigation of the murder of young model Jean Dexter. The detectives scramble around trying to find these two murderers.
The real star of the film though is the city itself. The narration highlights both the positive and negative aspects of a city that is extremely complex. New York takes on its own personality and beauty.
While the plot itself is semi generic, the portrait of the city is just marvelous. Anyone who has lived in New York should see this film and see one of the most wonderfully shot visions of the City.
